Problem:

The US Supreme Court has often dealt with the question of whether the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishments, sometimes seeming to hold that it is cruel and unusual punishment and sometimes seeming to hold that particular ways of administering the death penalty are cruel and unusual. Where does the law currently stand on whether the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment? Include proper in-text citations in APA format to support your answer.

Additional Information:

This question is from Law as well as it is about whether or not death penalties must be continued in the United States. The opinion of Supreme Court Judge, Justice Harry A. Blackmun has been taken. Justice Blackmum is of the view that death penalty is the only deterring factor against the people committing heinous crimes as well as if the law is not strict, one cannot expect the system to serve justice in the coming years.
