Select an ethnic group that has been subject to large scale ethnic conflict, genocide and/or mass violence (For example - South African apartheid, Holocaust Survivors, Japanese sex slaves during World War II, immigrant populations seeking asylum)

Research your selected group. Identify some of the known traumatic reactions and psychological dynamics at play, that this group has suffered because of their oppression or the violence they faced. (Please be specific here - PTSD, struggles with assimilation and acculturation, enormous stress reactions). Research how these difficulties play out in relationships (personal and professional), self-identity development, and social development/functioning. Using one of the models of racial identity development in chapter 9, discuss how the helping process between a client and his/her therapist could move the client through the various stages noted. How does the trauma identified within each groups' experience effect the healing process?
