Laboratory safety for labs dealing with chemicals and radioactivity hazards
Research centres, hospitals, schools and universities almost all of them have labs which is a very important area for analysis, investigation, teaching, experimental and discover. In laboratory there is many hazards of the substances being used or made such as chemicals, radiation, toxic gases and dealing with animals, which is should be identify to the workers and student before begin of work in labs. And it'sessential for science teachers, laboratory technicians and students to pay attention to safety precautions when operating in the laboratory or during a field study. In addition, in laboratory should ensure that the requirements of the occupational safety and health ordinance are observed so as to ensure the occupational safety and health of workers.
General precaution
There is general precaution for safety and protection should be taken seriously for every one enters the labs:
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) should be wearing by labs worker either there is hazard risks in the area around or not. PPE include safety spectacles, protective gloves and laboratory gun.
- Drinking, eating and smoking are strictly forbidden in the laboratory and preparation room.
- Nothing in the lab should be removed without permeation and substance should be returned to the appropriate places immediately after use, with their markers facing the front.
- Wear contact lenses could be not safe and risky in the lab.
- Worker should follow strictly the lab instructions to use the substance and equipment and ask their supervisors if they don't know.
- More than one worker should be around in case of accident.
- Wash the hand after eachexperiment.
- Instruments and lab should keep clean all the time
- Proper precautions and special care should be taken when usage chemicals substance, living bodies, radioactive substances and syringe.
- In case of accidents, breakages and mistakes, report should be written with all the details and execution should be taken to avoid recurrence.
