La compañía Productora del Interior fabrica dos artículos, S y P. Tiene dos departamentos de producción. El producto P se procesa a través de ambos departamentos, en tanto que el producto S pasa únicamente por el departamento 1. La materia prima A se emplea en el departamento 1 para los dos productos y la materia prima B se usa solo en el departamento 2. Se prepara un plan de utilidades sobre una base anual. Con el fin de simplificar el caso, se dan únicamente los datos de un trimestre. Las estimaciones presupuestales que se han desarrollado a la fecha comprenden lo siguiente:
