The following questions are intended to allow you to demonstrate both knowledge of course material and the ability to apply course learning to work situations. You gain points in your responses to the questions by concisely explaining theories/concepts you draw on, clearly connecting theories to situational data, and providing analysis that is insightful, detailed, and specific. Questions are centered on the behavior-performance model and related course material, and you may use learning from Primal Leadership and course articles in your answers as well, where they are useful for you. Thoughtful, thorough, and literate responses will receive maximum points.
1) Primal Leadership identifies four domains of emotional intelligence ... areas which help to shape a person's capacity to lead effectively ... and the first half of the course addressed two of those: self-awareness and self-management. Using the individual difference variables that we discussed in class, identify three characteristics of yours that you see as most important to helping you self-manage and manage others, and for each indicate why that's the case.
2) The second domain of emotional intelligence that we've examined so far is self-management. Using the self-management variables discussed in class and identified in Primal Leadership (in most editions this is in the chapter on The Neuroanatomy of Leadership), identify what you see as the most challenging three areas of self-management for you, and for each indicate why that's the case and what's needed for you to become even more capable in each area.
3) One of the individual differences that is important for understanding and shaping your career for the long term is career anchors. Describe the Career Anchor concept, identify what you see as your primary anchor and one or two secondary anchors, and discuss how these anchors influence your work and career choices.
