Assignment 1: Industry Report & Annotated Bibliography DETAILS Getting some understanding of the industry you might enter when you graduate is really important now to help shape your decision-making over the next few years. It is also important to understand how to research topics across a range of academic databases and contemporary sources. In this assessment, you will need to research your industry (or an industry you're interested in) domestically and internationally to understand its current challenges, issues and opportunities. You will need to write a 1,200 word report which includes the following aspects:
• An overview of the industry that influenced your choice of degree, or which interests you; this should include a definition of the industry and the kinds of broad disciplines or professional areas it might cover or touch on, as well as numbers of people employed in the field and the kinds of roles they might hav
• What does your industry do? What kind of contribution does it make to society? Does this differ according to country?
• How has your industry grown or changed since it was first established or practised?
• What are the associations or peak bodies that represent the industry? What are the Codes of Practice or Ethics that govern it, and what impact do you think they have?
• Domestic and international application - are there people employed in your industry around the world? Do you know where? What kinds of roles do they undertake? You will need to attach a brief (one-page) annotated bibliography to your report, containing six (6) references in relation to the topic of your report. While a bibliography is simply a list of sources used in an essay or report, an annotated bibliography takes the bibliography one step further by asking you to comment and evaluate the sources, citing how they are useful in constructing your arguments.
• Format the annotated bibliography using the APA Reference style, as per the guidelines on the Purdue Owl website.
• Each annotation should be between 50-100 words.
• At least three (3) of the sources should be attained from library databases (these can include WARC or Factiva). The other three (3) can be reputable online sources such as industry blogs, websites or forums. Wikipedia, Facebook and Google are not sources. Check with your tutor if you are unsure about a source. CRITERIA
• Coherent and well researched report which includes information on required elements (15/30)
• Clear written expression including correct grammar, spelling, punctuation (5/30)
• Correct number and types of sources in the annotated bibliography; sources are relevant and clearly annotated (10/30)
