Amber is a 2nd year Native American female Graduate Rehabilitation Counseling student at Langston University. Prior to enrolling in graduate school Amber worked seven years as a rehabilitation counselor for a state Oklahoma Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Amber is now in her 6th week of clinical supervision with Wallace a Caucasian male. Wallace whose current case load at his practicum site consists mostly of minorities clients says to Amber, "I am tired of working with these types of clients; I need someone who understands the American way." He then goes on to state, "Do you ever notice these clients do not have the same type of work ethnic as you and I." Without knowing that Amber is Native American, Wallace continues to make derogatory type comments. Amber getting frustrated begins to explain to Wallace how this type of behavior continues to perpetuate stereotypes. Amber realizing this may possibly cause conflicts/riffs between her and Wallace for the next 10 weeks of practicum/supervision begins to battle internal conflicts and struggles knowing she has to be professional when providing a collegial relationship with Wallace.
