Karen Jarvis, a director of sales, Hal Boynton, president have responded to Kim’s request for a meeting. Kim has been with the company for over 15 years, compared to an average of 6 years of other employees. Kim has begun to feel underpaid as far her own living expenses begin to increase and is demanding a raise from Karen and Hal, arguing that she has to maintain her current lifestyle, she has seniority over everyone and, she always goes beyond the call of duty.

1. Hal’s first reaction is to note that Kim is one of the highest paid employees in the company. Should that make a difference to the way her request is handle? Why or why not? Would it change your answer to take into consideration the fact the Kim has been on staff for many years?
