In your FIRST post, think about the key "Western interaction with Muslims" from our readings (besides the events of September 2001) that you discussed in the Weekly Reading Quiz earlier in the week. Name that event and tell us whether that event was mostly from the perspective of Europe or from the USA. THEN, choose a different event that was mostly from the perspective of the other geographic and cultural location (if you've already written about the USA, post here about an event or "encounter" based around European perspectives; if you've already written about the perspective of Europe, then post here about something from the USA).

Give us the most relevant and interesting information about this event, context, or "interaction." Then, in your SECOND post of this discussion, focus on one of the visual images (mostly political cartoons) that most captured your attention from this week's readings. There are more than a dozen of these in the second chapter we read (pages 59-75). Describe this image, what it communicates, and why it matters. What symbol or symbols are visually featured? From where does this symbol come and what does it (supposedly) represent? What details about this symbol and this image are important? Better posts will quote directly (providing quotation marks around quotes, and the page number, or numbers, where the idea or argument occurs) from the book in your answer.
