CASE STUDY: M1 BRIDGE COLLAPSE IN JOHANNESBURG
On 14 October 2015, a temporary scaffolding structure in Johannesburg at Sandton collapsed. The structure was used as a bridge for cyclists and pedestrians. As a result, 23 people were reported injured and two are dead. In addition, three vehicles with occupants were trapped underneath the collapsed structure. According to the construction company (Murray & Roberts), the cause of the incident was unknown. Murray & Roberts is described as a company that has a long and proud heritage of more than a century and is recognised today as a multi-national project life cycle group.
