COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING

Brief history of the Barangay Payatas (formerly known as Barangay 8) is a district in Quezon City, Metro Manila, it is divided into three local areas that are named Payatas A, B and C. The named Payatas is derived from the word "Payat sa Taas" meaning the soil on the upper part of Tullahan River is not suitable for planting rice; the area used to be a gulf that thrives in rice paddies and was a farming village, but in 1970 the Payatas Dumpsite opened causing mountains of dump waste to fill the old farming land, residents of the place chose to become scavengers that scrape out trash to earn money for daily expenses, which is another reason for the barangay to called the "Second Smokey Mountain" of Quezon City.

Conclusion:

There are plenty of issues and problems present within the barangay, but several issues stood out after conducting a community diagnosis. The biggest notifiable problem in the barangay is air pollution, which branches out to deeply rooted issues such as proliferation of respiratory tract infections and diseases related to either cardiovascular or pulmonary. This problem is aggravated by the geographical location of the barangay. Several hazardous chemicals that the members of the community live with; given that this community is remotely placed within the slums of all sorts of wastes. That leads us to the next issue identified in the community, which is land pollution. Thas is built through decades of continuous junking of wastes in the area. Wastes that elevates the risk of having diseases such as gastrointestinal diseases and integumentary diseases. Nonetheless, another issue hanging is contamination of water due to unsanitary environmental status. This chain reaction revolves within the 3 largest contributors in negatively affecting the holistic health of the members of the barangay. All of these issues are within the umbrella of poor community identification of possible threat not only to their health but the day to day exposure to catastrophic environment.
