Please help me give feedback on my classmates post listed below following these guidelines
Discuss a scenario in which they could apply their identified key elements in the field of criminal justice. Be sure to suggest ways to manage the scenario using the elements provided in the original post.
For me, there are many highlights throughout this program. Specifically, my three favorite courses were this one, Data-Drive Decisions in Criminal Justice, and Women in Leadership. This course was a highlight for me because it gave me the opportunity to explore a topic I have always been interested in - gangs. Spending ten weeks on the topic has allowed me to explore this issue!
The course titled "Data-Driven Decisions" was a highlight for me because of my interest in using data to make informed decisions. This course taught me skills I will absolutely take with me in my career. Especially in a position of leadership, utilizing data to make effective decisions is one that is vital to the success and productivity of a department/organization. This course was very successful in preparing me in this way.
And finally, the course "Women in Leadership" was incredible! The course covered common barriers that women face in the workplace, primarily as a result of historic gender roles and expectations. As a woman, I found this course very interesting, and I value the research conducted in learning how to overcome such obstacles.
Along with the aspects from the Women in Leadership course, there are others that resonated with me. I found a lot of value in the way that many of these courses instruct the student to assume the role of a leader within an organization. This hypothetical perspective allowed me to research and learn about common challenges in the system, both systemically and on the individual level. After doing so, I feel like a more informed member of the criminal justice system. Additionally, I feel I have learned valuable skills regarding leadership that will make me a better employee, co-worker, and (hopefully/eventually) a leader.
As I have learned so much throughout this program, I look forward to the opportunity to use these skills within my career. I plan to use the leadership aspects I have learned to better support those around me. Furthermore, much of the leadership skills I have learned were about effective communication. This, I have found, is one of the most important aspects in creating a productive and positive work environment. Furthermore, the aspects I have learned in the Women in Leadership course will carry with me into my career as I am now more informed about the barriers that women face and ways to overcome them. Again, as a woman myself, these aspects will make me more informed to achieve success and better support other women around me.
Although this program has taught me a lot about the criminal justice system and leadership, I have also learned so much about myself. As mentioned, I have been working full-time while pursuing my master's degree. This hectic schedule has made me incredibly organized and strong at time management. These aspects will stay with me as I grow into positions where I need to effectively manage my time and multiple tasks.
Not only that, but this degree is a point to myself that I can do what I put my mind to! Although it was incredibly challenging to balance everything at once, I am proud of myself for pushing my abilities! I now know that I am capable of so much more than I would have normally signed myself up for.
Overall, this program has taught me so much, both about the system I look forward to entering, and myself. I truly value everything I have learned throughout this program and am confident that I will be effective in my future positions because of it.
