Socrates thinks that improving oneself is of central importance to leading a truly good human life, and he thinks a key component of self-improvement is improving one's mind. Moreover, he thinks that improving our minds is important because it is a form of self-improvement, and not, just, for the sake of money, or power, or prestige. Moreover, he thinks that if humans really cared about improving their minds, they would notice that this is not something that we do on our own, but something we do together with others. We do it by investigating what each other thinks, why they think it, and trying to come to an answer on the issue in question. (Moreover, he seems to think that we should only believe a position if we think there is an answer. If there isn't one to find, none of us should have beliefs about it at all.)

Do you think he is correct that it would help improve our minds to search for the truth, especially about controversial topics, together with others-including others who disagree with us? If not, why not? If so, what are some challenges that get in the way of such discussions being useful, and how might these be overcome?
