Assignment Title: KB Network System
Scenario
Kathmandu Bank (KB) is one of the leading banks in Kathmandu Nepal. It has multiple branches providing financial and banking solutions to their customers. The Central office is located in Naxal Kathmandu Nepal and the Bank is expanding its services to different part of the country. Following are the detail about branches that the bank is going to open in near future.
Branches:
1. Biratnagar 5. Birgunj
2. Pokhara 6. Baglung
3. Chitwan 7. Chitwan
4. Butwal
The Head office is located in Kathmandu. Recently KB management has decided to provide banking services to newly open branches. Currently there is no network between branches. Now Management decided to interconnect all the branches with Private lease line. Also need to redesign LAN network of Head office where one counter and 5 other departments are there. You hired as a Network Administrator to redesign all the LAN and WAN to fulfill the requirement of KB management. Management has given you detail to design LAN as follow.
• Maximum capacity of counter and each department is 15 computers.
• The entire PCS must connect through cable and also should have proper wireless connectivity.
• Each branch should be able to access the servers located in head office.
• Each branch office must be connected with head office of at least two separate ISP network
• Server system and network deployed must be highly secured with firewall.
• Need to develop the network infrastructure and traffic statistics monitoring system.
You need to design layer 2 and layer 3 network based on LAN design principle including IPV4 and IPV6 IP address planning. You should simulate sample network design in simulation with configuration.
The company has asked you to produce a final report of your design and implementation that demonstrate your understanding the principle of network no later than 4 Nov 2019.
Learning Outcome 1: Explore LAN design principles and their application in the network design process.
Learning Outcome 2: Implement a network using LAN design principles based on a predefined set of requirements
Learning Outcome 3: Produce an appropriate WAN solution to a set of organizational requirements.
Learning Outcome 4: Solve a range of network related problems using appropriate troubleshooting techniques and methods.
Part 1
Prepare a report covering the following topics:
1. Examine and produce an analysis of the network design models and how they contribute to the design of a scalable and reliable network.
2. A detailed discussion of LAN redundancy concepts, network features, such as bandwidth and load and their related issues. The explanations should contain the possible solutions provided at Layer 2 and 3 of the OSI Model.
3. Provide a detailed account of how redundancy protocols support scalable networks.
4. Design and implement a network prototype using a network simulator (or lab devices), which incorporates redundancy at Layer 2 and 3 and link aggregation features with the following requirements:
1. Include at least three Layer 2 switches.
2. Provide redundant link between all the switches.
3. Use Rapid PVST+ as spanning tree protocol.
4. Use link aggregation in the main active link.
5. Provide a redundant gateway using a suitable first-hop redundancy protocol.
You also need to provide the following written material as a formal report:
1. A rationale about the selection of the networking devices for the prototype.
2. A comparison between PVST and Rapid PVST and their effectiveness in solving redundancy issues.
3. A detailed explanation of how the first-hop redundancy protocols will work for IPv4 and IPv6.
4. An evaluation of Ether Channel technology solving bandwidth and load issues.
Part 2
1. Produce presentation slides which show an appropriate WAN solution to a set of organizational requirements. The presentation includes"
• Examine WAN technologies and select the appropriate one for a set of enterprise requirements and analyze the benefits and drawbacks of private and public WAN technologies.
• Configure WAN protocols as part of an enterprise network solution.
• Write a summary of the presentations including the key ideas/ findings/ information presented on the slides.
2. Write a paper evaluating features and benefits of different VPN types based on organizational needs.
3. Produce technical report which includes
I. Deploy network monitoring tools and troubleshooting methods to establish network baselines and produce network documentation. Also, step by step process of troubleshooting methods.
II. Troubleshoot LAN and WAN connectivity issues at different networking layers.
III. Evaluate troubleshooting methods and their effectiveness in solving enterprise-wide networking issues.
