Kant's principle of universal law asks us to try to universalize a given maxim, to see what it would mean it the maxim applied to everybody. If this attempt to universalize a maxim results in an inconsistency, an absurdity, or an irrational situation, then the maxim...?

a. cannot be considered to be morally justifiable.

b. can be considered to be morally justifiable, since it is just a theory, and theory always conflicts with practice.
