Scenario It is an average Tuesday afternoon and you, as vice principal of the junior high, are completing paperwork in your office. A ninth grader whom you know as a typically good student knocks on the door and asks to speak to you. The student, Samantha, is an honor roll student who is also on the cheer squad and the gymnastics team. Samantha has attended the school for two years and, until recently, has not had any discipline referrals. In the last three months, however, Samantha's and her friends' names have been brought to your attention more than once. She has skipped school and been involved in an incident where the fire alarm was activated. You were able to detect the truancy and Samantha spent a Saturday in detention as a result. In the other incident, it was determined that she did not pull the fire alarm (her friend did) so she was not disciplined in that matter. You have also heard her calling one particular girl a slut, a whore, and other derogatory terms during class and you have seen her hugging a male.
