Yes, there have been cases of nullification since mid-1800s due to racial concerns. Like when White southern juries refused to convict members of the Ku Klux Klan and other who had abused Black citizens during the civil rights time (Heilbrun, K., 2023). Jury nullification was also quiet the revolution during the Prohibition era and War on Drugs, for citizens to say "no" to what they believed to be individuals charged with violating alcohol and drugs laws. Jurors were able to verbalize their disagreement through their verdicts (Schwartzapfel, S., 2024). I don't think nullification is always the problem. Yes, I do think it depends on the case, the facts presented, the priority/popularity of the case, and the jurors on the case.
