Process Engineer Job Description

Job Title: Process Engineer

Supervisor Job Title: Manager, Engineering Team

Department: Engineering, Production Division

Pay Range: $75,000 to $85,000

Date: September 2017

Job Summary:

The Process Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing process strategies, managing process resources, optimizing current processes, and maintaining process documents.  Ultimately, to maintain the efficiency of production to reduce costs. This position requires prior experience in process design, excellent technical skills, and high-level analytical skills. 

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Meeting with production managers to assess existing processes.
  • Drafting process ideas to reduce costs and improve production rates.
  • Performing risk assessments to assess safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Designing and testing process upgrades and new process systems.
  • Ensuring the implementation of new production processes, and follow-up until process capability is achieved
  • Ensuring processes comply with safety and quality standards.
  • Performing process simulations and troubleshooting issues.
  • Performing optimization tests.
  • Developing plans and schedules for preventative and predictive maintenance of equipment
  • Developing routines and best practices to ensure product quality.
  • Developing standardized operating instructions for the upgrades process.
  • Providing the Product Manager with process documents and standard operating procedures.
  • Monitoring upgrades systems.
  • Assisting with in-house training programs for assembly personnel to learn new production parts and processes
  • Work with Engineering to develop parts and manufacturing processes simultaneously for easier manufacturing, reducing costs and improving production rates.

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • University Degree specializing in Technology or Engineering

Required Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of process engineering
  • Ability to project manage
  • Experience with process simulations and standard operating procedures.
  • High-level knowledge of process engineering software systems.
  • Experience working with CAD and AutoCAD.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years experience in process engineer or related role in a manufacturing environment

Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project
  • Ability to problem solve under minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship building skills
  • Excellent customer services skills 
  • Advanced technical skills
  • Analytical thinker
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations

Working Conditions: 

  • Work generally completed in the manufacturing facility and in the offices of several stakeholders
