Jet Red's Attention Trained on Sandra

Sandra Almeira, Training Manager for Jet Red, has a PhD in the social sciences and a firm belief that every manager and employee should be 'people 'oriented. Accordingly, she 'sold' the idea to Jet Red's former senior management that human relations communication, team building and similar courses are a prerequisite for improved organizational performance given a free hand. Sandra hired expensive training consultants and saw to it that all managers and most employees were exposed to 'people training'.

After the dismissal of the former senior management team, Sandra was called into the office of Jet Red's new HR Manager, Linda Church. "Well Sandra", Linda began, "I have some disturbing news. It would appear from the consultant's market report that all our competitors are leading us in terms of customer satisfaction, innovation and level of management sophistication. We have lost our position in the marketplace and Alan Balkin wants corrective action now. 

All this wonderful 'people' training you've been pushing has been a disaster. I regret I'm going to have to let you go. There is no place in the new Jet Red for activities for people who do not add value. I'm sorry, Sandra, but there no alternative. With that, Linda pressed the button and a tall grey-haired figure entered the room. It was the outplacement consultant. Sandra's career with Jet Red was over! Sandra suddenly realized that she was wet with perspiration.
