I have attached a hometown painting, called the Unity Mural. It is located downtown and has layers of a beautiful meaning. It reflects my definition of culture as it shows different people from many different walks of life and backgrounds coming together and incorporating their own beliefs and values to find a way to unite and rise above. Culture is tradition and beliefs shared by a group of people. This group of likeminded people form an ethnicity. Caring for a patient holistically first requires the nurse to assess the patient's cultural needs and boundaries, and then adjusting their treatment plan accordingly. Doing so would allow the nurse to respect this patient's beliefs while still providing adequate care. It is important for the nurse to acknowledge the patient's cultural diversity and be sure to create a care plan that aligns with their values and practices.
