JEE503 Ship Design Assignment - Design Project - Part 2 - Australian Maritime College, Australia
UNIT LEARNING OUTCOMES & CRITERIA -
1. Demonstrate an understanding of practical issues with respect to the selection and design of a vessel's key features, structure and integral systems.
2. Design a hull form and efficient structure compliant with practical operational and performance requirements and appropriate codes and regulations.
3. Produce an abbreviated suite of supporting design documentation exhibiting a rational engineering approach to a preliminary design.
4. Develop an appropriate project management regime and associated tools to facilitate efficient design practice.
Topic - Cargo Vessel Design
Design Brief and Documentation -
Task Description - Carrying on from Part 1 of the Design Project, further develop your concept design to a preliminary design. Demonstrate the process for analysis and prediction of hydrostatic, resistance, seakeeping and manoeuvring characteristics. Prepare a lines plan, general arrangement and midship structural arrangement in addition to a concise report outlining the underpinning rationale and suggested remedial options required to further refine the design.
Submission is to be via PDF documents.
Both hand or CAD drawings are acceptable but drawings must be to scale and demonstrate a level of professionalism.
Separate documents in PDF format for sketches will be assessed providing appropriate references to the sketches are made within the main document.
Length of report - The minimum report length is 4 pages of writing with sketches, research, calculations and appendices to follow. However it is up to the student to decide exactly on the length of the report.
Assessment Details -
This Design Development is to include the following as a minimum:
- Documentation outlining the developed design, any variations and modifications.
- Further developed dimensions and parameters in accordance with any variations required.
- Developed drawings, sketches or images outlining the developed design, i.e. lines plan, general arrangement and midship structural drawing.
- Further research and development and any influences on the development of the design - if required
- Written documentation outlining the background to, and major aspects of the design. Pay particular attention to the principal features that define this style of design.
- Upright hydrostatics and large angle stability.
- Assessment of at least one seakeeping scenario appropriate to the intended application of your vessel.
- Assessment of the manoeuvring characteristics including if applicable a detailed rudder design or equivalent.
Please note: The seakeeping and manoeuvring characteristics must be predicted to an advanced level. Need to make assignment with cargo vessel design.
