ITSU3007 Manage I.T. Projects - Victorian Institute of Technology

Learning Outcome 1: Describe and apply project management principles to implement a complete IT project lifecycle LO2: Prepare a comprehensive and detailed project plan, including project initiation and scope definition

Learning Outcome 2: Analyse the key features and processes required to execute, control and coordinate the project LO4: Evaluate requirements for project closure, acceptance and support

The aim of this report is to demonstrate the skills and knowledge of how the processes under project management knowledge areas are carried out through the project management life cycle. You are required to select a specific IT/IS project and apply these skills and knowledge according to the requirements stated below.

The project can be implementing/upgrading an infrastructure, a system or both. Major examples of these projects can be (but not limited to):

- Information system development

- Smartphone app development

- Hardware infrastructure development

- Website/web service development

Rememeber that these are only examples. In your report you need to specify what exactly the project is and what is its main objective(s).

Hint: It is recommended that you discuss with your lecturer your selected project to make sure that you are in the right track. This communication is also recommended while you are developing your report by time.

Requirements: In your project you are required to consider all the activities/processes under knowledge areas including Scope Management, Time Management, Cost Management, Quality Management, Human Resources Management, Stakeholders and Communication Management, Procurement Management, Risk Management, Change Management and Integration Management.

You need to elaborate how these processes are mapped and carried out under each phase of your chosen project. For time and cost estimate, you need to elaborate how the activities are carried out. You do NOT need to develop a project schedule and a budge estimate. For example under,

1. Integration Management
a. Elaborate how you would go about developing project charter under initiation phase
b. Develop a brief project charter.
2. Scope Management -
a. Discuss the various steps required to define, develop and manage scope.
b. Develop a detailed scope statement including scope items, exclusions, deliverables, assumptions, constraints and risks.
c. Develop a scope management process and change request management process that you will be following in your project

3. Time Management
a. Discuss the various steps required to define, develop and manage schedule.

4. Cost Management
a. Discuss the various steps required to define, develop and manage budget.

General Instruction

1. Your scope and other requirements should, match the project based on its type, nature and size. You need to be realistic and logical as much as you can.

2. The word limit for the assignment is 3500.
