ITECH7400 IT Service Management And Professional Culture - Federation University
Learning Outcome 1: Research and discuss underpinning theories of ethical philosophy and apply these in to a range of scenarios in IT workplace and service environments.
Learning Outcome 2: Critically reflect on the principles of industry body code of ethics and synthesize them into daily IT practice.
Learning Outcome 3: Describe contemporary approaches to dealing with the social impact of technology in a changing IT service environment.
Learning Outcome 4: Appraise IT service management practices and how they assist organisations.
Learning Outcome 5: Debate the need for organisational change, the key influence of human behaviour and its impact on IT organisational culture in a service driven environment.
Learning Outcome 6: Investigate skills frameworks and develop an awareness of industry certifications relevant to IT professionals.
Task 1: Ethical Discussion Forum
Purpose: The purpose of the ethical discussion forum is to help students develop a knowledge of ethics.
Requirements: This is an individual task. This task requires students to write two (2) forum posts, which analyse an ethical dilemma related to an area of social computing in a community and/or organisational context. In post one (1) students will apply four ethical theories, and in post two (2) students will apply ACS code of ethics in order to solve the ethical dilemma.
Task 2: Career Planning Assignment
Purpose: The purpose of the career planning assignment is to help students prepare for their professional career beyond university.
Requirements: This is an individual assignment. Students will be required to identify a position, and
prepare a written application consisting of an application letter, a written response to the selection criteria, and a resume or curriculum vitae including a SIFA mapping. In addition students will be required to have an up-to-date linked in profile to support their application.
Task 3: Team ITSM Assignment and Presentation
Purpose: The presentation enables students to practice their oral communication skills in a team-based environment, as well as conduct research and apply the ITSM framework.
Requirements: Students are required to form teams, with one team member elected the team leader. Teams will deliver a presentation and prepare a business report detailing their application of the ITSM framework to a case study of an organisation dealing with unique and complex IT business problems. For example, the deployment and support of enterprise applications. or creation and management of processes such as helpdesk support and troubleshooting procedures. The presentations will be given in week 11 normally in the timetabled lecture and/or tutorial. Online students can provide the presentations through either an appropriate online video conferencing technique or adding voice-over to their poster presentation.
Task 4: Final Assessment
Purpose: To assess students on a range of topics from across the whole semester covered in all lecture notes, tutorials and assessment tasks.
Description: Students are required to sit an end of semester written examination. Questions will be based on any content covered in the course. This includes any lectures, tutorials and all assessable tasks.
Note: 800 to 1200 for part 1 and 300 to 500 for part 2
