Nicholas Carr, a futurist and IT consultant and editor at large at Havard Business Review wrote an article in May 2003 titled “IT Doesn’t Matter” in a bid to address the use of IT to achieve a strategic advantage. Nicholas Carr’s article created a storm of debate on the issue as it challenged firmly held views on the matter. A number of business leaders and academics wrote a rejoinder in a subsequent Havard Business Review article published in June 2003 indicating why IT matters. Many other authors/pundits have discussed the article since then.

1. Do you agree with the argument made by Nicholas Carr to support his position that IT no longer gives companies a competitive advantage? Discuss the position taken.
