It is now quite common to see dashboards, scorecards, and many other types of tracking methods to keep organizations informed of progress or digression during the year or years. The first step is to know where the data will come from (i.e. accounting, publicly available, quality department) and the cycle that it is reported in (i.e. monthly or quarterly). Then targets (i.e. top 10%) must be set to measure current performance. Many dashboards now have the stop light color coding for easy identification of low performing areas by board members.
