A public safety unit of a university issues identification cards at the beginning of each semester. The steps in the process and the approximate times for each step are given below.

Note: Steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 must be completed in the order shown. If necessary, some tasks can be combined and assigned to the same worker without upsetting the order of the flow.

b. Suppose you are authorized to hire one more staff. Explain to which station the new worker should be assigned to maximize line efficiency, and how many applications can be processed per hour with the addition of the new worker.

c. What will be the maximum number of applications processed using only four workers?
