George Albee (2005) suggests that the lack of adequate healthcare is the primary way in which marginalized groups are oppressed and disadvantaged. He points out that people who are marginalized are much more likely to require inpatient psychiatric care and are at a substantially greater risk of dying from untreated or under-treated diseases and medical conditions. Albee has determined that the provision of improved healthcare services should be the central method through which the field of Community Psychology combats the problem of marginalization.
