Part 2 - Reviewing the task
The complete Problem Task is in the Wiseflow/attached sensor package.
Important information about the task:
Scope: The answer must consist be 3600 words, including absolutely everything (title, reference list, any attachments also count towards the number of words). Enthaoldin talebears that you create yourself count as words, content in shapes does not. Only one document should be delivered, in Microsoft Word format.
Datasets and tools: Create your own small dataset wherever it fits. You may want to use Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, SAS, (or other tool or code) but you should only deliver one Word document , so you'll need to take screenshots and paste into your Word document. Make sure you don't take too long to get anything through with tools. Alternatively, you can draw and illustrateyourself. You can also draw freehand on paper and take a picture/scan and paste into your Word document.
Missing information in the Problem Task text: You can add your own prerequisites or details, but be sure to state this. For example: "I realizethat the gym has been around since 2015." If you are unsure about anything, write something like: "I interpret this Problem Task as making up data sources myself" or equivalent.
Case description (Fitness center GET-FIT is fictional) attached:
You work as a Business Intelligence consultant in a large, privat chain of gyms called GET-FIT. In the training industry, there is strong competition! New gyms are constantly emerging, new concepts are emerging, new forms of training are being developed, digital training is exploding, and unpredictable events are happening (pandemien is an example). This places great demands on the ability of the centres to adapt quickly, be on "all platforms", and the like ("it is not the big fish that eat the small fish, but the quick ones that eat the slow ones"). For example, personal trainers (PTs), which run their own small-scale businesses that offer alternative and cool workouts compared to gyms, steal members from the centers. In the strong competition, price is therefore also an important factor, along with training offers and other viewingvice offers that can strengthen the position in themarket.
Problem Task 1 - Business Intelligence (BI) definition and value. (Expected scope: Approx. 1200 words)
Management knows little about BI and your first Problem Task is to informe about definition, history and utility. You have learned that BI is defined as process, tool, and end-user products. Prepare an input to the management where you will present each of these three, as well as what value the correct use of BI can provide the company. Also take into account the time horizon in your assessments - what is the need now, in the medium term, and in the long term. Feel free to create simple illustrations or sketches where appropriate.
Problem Task 2 - Decision traps (Hammond et al, 2006) and Top concerns forBI consultants (Watson, 2019) (Expected scope: Approx. 1200 words)
After your presentation in the previous assignment (which received a standing ovation!), management has now realized that they need to upgrade BI willbe responsible for leading the project. You go home and refresh the contents of the papers of Hammond et al (2006) and Watson (2019). Briefly explain the six different decision-making traps (Hammond et al, 2006) that you as a BI consultant can commit in this project. Then, read Watson (2019) «Addressing the Top Concerns of BI and Analytics Managers" and explain what you can learn from this paper. Be sure to reflect
Problem Task 3 - Statistics, Datamining, Big Data and Ethics (Expected scope: Approx. 1200 words)
3.1 Explain correlation and linear regression analysis in your own words (including interpolation and extrapolation). You are not expected to know the formula. Create your own dataset and illustrate (either on paper or screenshots from, for example, Microsoft Excel). What information does this provide to a GET-FIT decisionmaker?
3.2 We have used Microsoft Excel Solver in lectures. You will demonize how the fitness center can get value out of this. For example, some customers are solikely to struggle to get enoughcalories. Set up a Solver so that these customers can eat, for example, 3,500 calories by eating as little as possible. (Take a screenshot of the solution from Excel.)
3.3 There are three main types of visualization onthecurriculum: Pillars, Scatterplot and Heatmap. Explain when you want to use each. Display with illustrations on all three main types (create your own small dataset). You present proudly, but the management just wants as many pie charts as possible. Then what do you do?
3.4 Briefly explain what data mining is and how it differs from statistics. Then give one example of each of the seven forms below - link the examples to the gym and explain so that management will understand. Datamining: association categorization clustering sequential Web mining: usage content structure
3.5 Management has of course heard of Big Data, but does not really know what it is. You're being called. You know that Big Data is defined using the 3Ver: Volume, Velocity, Variety. Explain how Vin your own words and give examples. Discuss then briefly what kind of insight (or value) Big Data can provide, beyond what traditional BI can provide for the fitness center? (Tip: The curriculum book discusses descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive business analysis.)
3.6 "Just because you can, aren't you (ethically) going to do it anyway?" For example, by obtaining personal information about members' online history, payment remarks, if they are listed with a doctor's certificate to freeze their subscription and(Tip: The Creepiness Scale in Watson &Nations 2019).
Briefly discuss how ethics and GDPR affect how gym management can use BI. It is allowed to think innovatively, but remember to pull in the curriculum or sources you find on your own. Be sure to distinguish between your own thoughts and those of others.
