Goal
The student should show knowledge of common words and phrases in SAP, as well as simple use of the system. In addition, the student will show a basic understanding of the structure and use of a data warehouse, as well as more in-depth how this can provide value for a business.The student will also get a holistic picture of computer warehouses and architecture.

Background
The company Norsk Datautsalg A/S (NODAS) is a company specializing in the sale of computers and accessories in Norway. They have evolved from a small firm of three employees to a medium-sized firm of 65 in a furious development that has passed in recent years. Last year, the company implemented an ERP system to keep track of the items shipped and also to make it easier to make purchases to the warehouse, as well as enable the extraction of sales figures.

The company has a marketing department, a call center, a tendering department (which secures sales agreements with large companies and government agencies), an IT department and a logistics department that both buys and ships goods.

The company faces some challenges when it comes to purchasing and selling despite its newly developed ERP system. Among other things, the company struggles to buy large quantities of goods that do not necessarily sell as well, and they also have difficulty predicting how many items will be sold at Christmas time, with the result that the stock is often filled with far too many, or far too few, of some goods.

At the same time, it is a bigger job for the Marketing Department to report on the effects of marketing campaigns as the exclusions made from the ERP system often come in a difficult lineup in a spreadsheet and need to be worked on a lot to make sense. Often, several lists need to be washed together to get all the numbers you want for the individual report.

Task 1

You have been tasked by NODAS with helping them with the development of a data warehouse. In this respect, they need to know some concepts within data warehouses and SAP. Briefly explain what these phrases mean,in your own words,so that your employees, with limited knowledge of data warehouses, understand:
1. OLAP
2. OLTP
3. InfoProvider
4. InfoObject
5. Top-down approach
6. Bottom-up approach

Task 2

1. Look for a case, present it in your own words, and explain why NODAS can benefit from knowing the special case. Argumentér also for why you have chosen exactly that case.

Task 3

Read the paper "An Overview of Business Intelligence Technology" (Chauduri, Dayal &Narasayya, 2011) and summarize, structured, in your own words the content of articleone.

Present the most important points in the article in tabular form with the listing of the findings and provide a detailed explanation of why the paper should be mandatory reading for the employees at NODAS who will be working with the data warehouse.
