The Song Dynasty was led by an emperor who signified unity between the empires. The dynasty was bureaucratic and had a central government in place with the emperor as its leader. Civil examinations were used to evaluate the positions of the empire administrators. The administrative units were referred to as districts and prefectures. Law and order were maintained by the administrative solders. Religion was a vital aspect of the dynasty as it guided the daily operations of the people.
The major religions that were practiced in the dynasty were the Daoism and Buddhism. Sacrifices were a common way of worship. Public festivals such as the Lantern festivals were common and so was calligraphy writing, painting, and theatrical drama. Aspects of rural-urban migration were also common. Trade and agriculture were common economic activities. Song dynasty prospered greatly a recorded high productivity due to the technological advancements which included the typography and the compass.
