Question: In this discussion we will turn our attention to an area of criminal law that can be at times, controversial - Elected Officials and Criminal Law. Our current media structure allows this topic to be a forefront in the media at all times so this should be an easy "current event" topic to research alongside your textbook assigned readings.

First, research "sting operations" and bribes to politicians. Find a case study of a politician ( other than the President ) under fire for bribes or other criminal allegations. Summarize the facts of the allegations and what crime or crimes they are alleged to have violated.

Then, based on your research and your knowledge of Criminal Law, make an argument ( support and persuasively establish your opinion) as to whether the criminal justice system ( ie - law enforcement agencies) should run ( specifically target) "sting operations" where they offer bribes to politicians? Is this a necessary practice that strengthens our government and protects the American people or is this "entrapment" simply creating a crime where none existed? (Define and discuss what entrapment is as well)

Do elected officials have a "higher duty" to the law than the average citizen? Why or why not?
