Arthur wrote to his sister Mary: If you will name your next child after me, I will give the child $10,000 when he reaches 21 years of age. Mary wrote back saying, My husband and I are happy to accept your kind offer. When Mary's baby was born, it was a boy and he was named Arthur II. When the boy reached 21, he asked Arthur for $10,000 and Arthur refused to pay, stating that he believed he was making a gratuitous offer when he wrote Mary 21 years before.

1. Is there an enforceable contract? Why?

2. Assuming the contract is valid, in an action by Arthur II against Arthur for $10,000, who will prevail? Explain why?
