I do think that there is a police and community relations issue in the U.S, but I believe that it has to do more with systemic racism within our country. While I do believe that there are definitely officers doing their very best to help protect and serve our country as best as they can, some officers decide to use their power to assert their dominance over people, primarily people of color, whom cannot defend themselves against a person of power holding a gun.
This definitely leads to a divide of people, especially when we look at the Black Lives Matter movement doing what they can to make sure that their brothers and sisters don't get killed unlawfully. As a country, we need to make sure that our children are taught to respect and care for others, regardless of skin color or place of origin. This problem has mostly to do with the racism embedded still within our country. The problem is not the police or the power they're given, it's a mix of power and ignorance, which in turn could be fixed when dealing with racism within the U.S.
