Nurses have had to face an increase of challenges related to the increase of NAS babies. Nurses are considered the front-line in-patient care. The roles they play in caring for the mothers and infants dealing with health issues is critical, while they are the direct contact for the family members who will be the caregivers. Nurses can help establish trust and facilitate care without causing harm with family-centered approaches, which is a much-needed outcome. Schierholz et al. (2020) noted that "Nurses should collaborate with hospital leadership, community partners, and elected representatives to advocate for policy change.
