Trudy was an amateur long distance runner who entered to race in the University 10K Run. Trudy signed a "General Release of Claim," which said that she assumed all risk of competition and released all claims against the University 10K organization and its sponsors. During the race, Trudy was found unconscious, probably as a result of tripping and falling on her head. Trudy sustained permanent injuries that left her paralyzed. Trudy later filed a personal injury lawsuit against the University 10 K organization.
