Problem 1 : Shown below are six cases in which two blocks are supported by massless strings. The lower block is the same in all cases and the mass of the upper block varies from case to case. The acceleration and velocity for each system is provided in the figure. Rank the magnitude of the tension in the bottom string from greatest to least. Hint: Draw free body diagrams whenever you are doing a force problem. The net force and accleration are always in the same direction.

Values for six cases of varied masses and accelerations are given in the table. Rank the six cases from the greatest tension at point P to the least tension at point P.

All surfaces are frictionless and the strings and pulley can be considered massless. Rank the systems based on the magnitude of the acceleration of the blocks from greatest to least. Hint: Only three ranking values are used in this problem. This is an exam level question.

In some cases a 4 newton force is acting on the block parrallel to the surface it is resting on. Rank the magnitude of the frictional force acting on the block. Hint: A critical piece of information is given in the problem that you should always pay attention to. Is the force of friction acting up or down the ramp? This is an exam level question.
