Question

You as an investigator have been given the responsibility to work out the mechanism behind the following observation. You are trying to explain the mechanism behind the metabolism of HISTIDINE in prokaryotes. Here's what you know: When placed un a medium containing histidine, the bacterial genome is silent. There only seems to be transcriptional activity when histidine is absent. The only thing you know for certain, from previous research, is that this is a REPRESSABLE system. Can you propose an ''operon-regulated'' scenario that would explain the following observations?

a. Is the a negatively or possibly controlled operan? Explain. Compare it to one that has the opposite type of control to see the difference.

b. Use your knowledge of other operan (lac and trp) to hypothesize a complete description of the operon's functioning in this metabolic pathway.
