Is "satisficing" always a rational way of behaving? What about "meliorating"? For example, recall the example of the fisherman who compares each fish that he catches to the one in the boat, keeping the larger one and throwing the others back into the water. What might be wrong with an attempt to perform the same exercise with choosing friends, instead of fish? Have you ever heard of anyone who selected a spouse in this manner?
