Should Physicians Accept Gifts?

It is common for patients to give gifts to their physicians as an expression of gratitude and appreciation. However, there are several ethical risks that could result from this practice, the most important one is the risk of blurring the boundary between physicians and their patients, and of changing the relationship from a professional relationship to a personal one.

Is it ethical for physicians to accept gifts from their patients? Answer this question based on the following ethical theories:

Kantian Ethics
Ethical Egoism

Note: Your answer does not have to be a "yes" or a "no." Your answer could be that accepting gifts is ethical under certain conditions and unethical under other conditions, in that case you must explain the conditions under which it is ethical to accept the gift and the conditions under which it is unethical to accept the gift.
