One kind of oral presentation is a speech in which you explain a position, or opinion, about an issue. After your speech, the audience asks questions and you answer them. Preparing is the first step. Use the following list as a guide to prepare.
• Decide what opinion you will take-for or against-and why.
• Write a short opening statement that gives your opinion.
• Gather facts and examples that support your opinion.
• Write a short conclusion that restates your opinion.
• Brainstorm a list of questions that your audience might ask.
Write down answers to the questions.
• Practice your presentation. Keep track of how long your speech takes.
When you make the presentation, follow these steps:
• Begin with your opening statement.
• Give facts and examples that support your opinion.
• Conclude by stating your opinion again in different words.
• Answer questions from the audience. Listen carefully to make sure you understand each question.
• While you are speaking, remember to look at your audience.
• Speak loudly and clearly so they can hear you.
