Part 1
Are hearing screenings actually necessary? Many states have their own guidelines that you can reference to determine hearing screenings in the school settings. For example, the Pennsylvania's guidelines are provided in the Assigned Readings folder.
Using information from your textbook, the supplemental videos and supplemental articles, provide a response to the following questions:
- Is hearing testing in the school setting required?
- Who completes the hearing screens in the school setting?
- Do you remember your hearing being tested?
- What happens if a child fails a hearing screen?
Respond to two peers.
Are there different barriers that could affect outcomes of the hearing screening depending on the age of the child?

1. Begin by listening to the All About Hearing - Episdode 3 podcast.
2. Read the following article: Understanding Auditory Processing Disorders in Children
3. Address the following questions and incorporate vocabulary and terminology throughout your response:
? Did the podcast help you better understand the parts of the ear? What parts of the ear did it help to clarify?
? What was something you learned in the podcast? Did you like the examples that were provided?
? What is auditory processing disorder (APD) ? Who can be affected? How long does it last? List any resources you utilized to make your response.
Respond to two peers by addressing their posts and discussing any or all of the following:
? Who do you think is crucial to have as part of an individual multidisciplinary team and why? Are there professionals you would deem not necessary, why?
? Can you find another resource to share that helped you to better understand APD? This could be a video, diagram, journal article, etc. What did you like about this resource, how did it help, what was difficult to understand about APD?

1. Begin by reading pages 353-354 in the assigned textbook.
2. Next, read the following resource and case study: Management of non-organic hearing loss in children - A case study.
Address the following questions in your initial post and incorporate appropriate vocabulary and terminology:
- When can non-organic hearing loss occure and why does it occur?
- What is the definition of non-organic hearing loss?
- What is the various terminology used and why is there resistance to change terminology?
Respond to two peers by commenting on their posts and discussing any or all of the following:
- Is it appropriate for audiologists to refer to psychologists? What other professionals can an audiologist refer to?
- Did you find any resources to help with this post? If yes, please share!
