AssignmentL:
Vincent's class requires that he create a research proposal. The proposal has to specify the purpose of the research, the subjects, the source(s) of data, the basic data collection method(s), and how time will be handled. Vincent has been a Boy Scout since he became a Tenderfoot in early elementary school, and he finally became an Eagle Scout the summer before he began college. A part of the mandate of Eagle Scouts is that they should take on leadership roles throughout their lives. Vincent is curious about how different Eagle Scouts manifest this leadership requirement.
Vincent's written description of his research proposal follows: I propose to document the leadership activities of Eagle Scouts. I will construct a survey about leadership activities, military service, and other achievements. I will distribute the survey to Eagle Scouts throughout the United States with the help of the Boy Scouts of America alumni organization. I am aware that leadership activities might be expressed differently in different generations, so I will try to make sure my sample includes Eagle Scouts who got their badges in each of the five decades of the past 50 years.
Does the study seem to be exploratory, descriptive, or explanatory?
What is the research method?
What is the unit of analysis?
Is the dimension of time relevant to the research Vincent proposed? If it is, how is the dimension of time handled.
