A Much is said about the polarization of American Politics and political culture as being an existential threat to Democracy and to some the American way of life. The articles attached can help you understand the topic and provide you with research to help you formulate your position and responses to other students. Using the material proided for research, and any external research you conduct state your position on one of the questions below. Be sure to support your positions from the research provided or which you obtained. Your position on the topic should be based on the research not on what you think or feel is the correct position. The same applies to your responses to other students. Be sure to state the question you are responding to in the introduction to your position.

Because this is believed to be a worldwide issue, it is permissible if you choose to base your researched positions on other than American democracy or political culture. International students are free and encouraged to state their position concerning their home political culture in IS comparison to the American Culture as they see it.

The articles attached are your research sources - they are not all required reading, but your position should include support or argument that includes relevant material from this group. While you can do outside research if you wish, however, you can use the various article here as your primary research universe. Part of the intent of this assignment is to familirize you with using scholarly research to help formulate your position Course and synthesize your arguments.

1. Is the current polarization an existential threat to democracy (in the United States or any democracy)?

2. Can (or will) political polarization lead to a more autocratic form of government in pluralistic liberal democracies?

3. Is the media social and/or mainstream the cause, a tool, or inconsequential to the development of polarization in a liberal democracy?

4. Is the controversy surrounding the results of the 2020 US Presidential election and the significant loss of trust in the American elections system a cause of the polarization or development of the polarization?
