Assume that we have a process where 25% of the current computational time of the code is sequential and the remainder can be parallelized. Currently, the process is running on a dual core CPU. Assume that the parallelism does not introduce any overhead irrespective of the number of cores used. Assume also that:

(a) Programmer A has a better algorithm for the sequential part of the code which can run 3 times as fa st while programmer B suggests that it would be better to double the number of cores. Which solution would you choose and why? Provide some performance numbers to justify your choice. Solve the problem using both Amdahl's and Gustafson's laws

(b) Assume that upon the completion of programmer B's solution, the code was timed and it was found that when only one core was utilized, the code took 1.5 seconds to execute. When 4 cores were utilized , the code took 0.4 seconds to execute. Clearly, the assumption that the parallelism didn't introduce any overhead was not correct. Again, solve the problem using both Amdahl's and Gustafson's laws

(c) What is the efficiency of programmer B's solution in percent under the assumptions made in both Amdahl's and Gustafson's laws?
