Case Assignment

Completing your degree is an investment in human capital. While an education provides many positive outcomes, most students pursue a degree for career growth. In this assignment, you will use the Career Beam (CB) system to create an appropriate resume and cover letter for a potential job opportunity. You will access the Career Beam system by clicking on the CB icon on the student portal.

Part 1 - Quick Profile

  1. Click on the Career Beam icon under the "Tools & Links" section of your student portal.
  2. Select the "Career Exploration" tab in the tool bar at the top of the page.

  5. Be sure to save the "Quick Profile" as it will also be used in the SLP assignment. You can use the "Download Quick Profile report" for a PDF file version and save the document using the following naming convention:

Part 2

Now, use the steps below to complete a cover letter and resume activity in CareerBeam. Assume you are applying for a job that was identified in the "Quick Profile" under the "Industries that Most Match your Interests". You will also find specific careers listed under "A few popular career choices for people with similar Quick Profile".If you are already in the career field of choice, then identify a career that you would also consider under "Additional areas in which you might consider a job or internship".

You will need to customize your resume and cover letter to one specific career that you find interesting. For a specific job, use the "Getting the Job" tab and select "Job Postings" for a listing in your area. Submit your resume and cover letter to be reviewed by your instructor. Please save and submit the cover letter and resume to the Case 4 Dropbox for review by your TUX instructor.
