Assessment item - Practical Tasks
TASK
Overview
This assessment has two tasks as described below.
Task 1 - Practical Tasks
This task has two practical questions, each question worth 3% of marks. These questions are to test your understanding of the contents in topics 1, 2, and 3.
Q 1: Complete Project 1-4.
Deliverable: List two security concerns and security options available, and briefly explain.
Your explanation of each security concern and security option should not exceed more than three short sentences. Your total answer for this
question should not exceed one A4 page.
Q 2: In this question, you are required to use GNU Octave. Sinusoidal (sine) waves are commonly used in wireless communication to represent the signal that needs to be transmitted over the wireless channel, e.g., in various modulation techniques. A sinusoidal wave can be mathematically represented as y = Asin(2*π* f * t) where A, π, f, t represent amplitude, a constant pi, frequency (Hz), and time (seconds), respectively. Using
GNU Octave, plot two sine waves (y1 , y2 ) on the same plot (hint: use subplot command) with A = 1, π = 3.14, f1 = 3Hz, f2 = 2f1 , t = 0:30 (value of t goes from zero to thirty).
Label x and y axis of each plot with 'Time (sec)' and 'Amplitude' respectively. Give the title of the plot as 'Name = your name, SID = your student ID'.
Deliverable: You are required to submit your executable Octave code in a text file and figure showing both plots. Submit only one file including code and figure.
Task 2
• Quiz will be from contents of topic 1, 2 and 3
• There will be total of 20 multiple choice questions in the quiz
• Quiz will be available in third week of study through the subject i2 site. An announcement on the i2 site will be made about the quiz start and end dates.
• This will be a single attempt and timed quiz of 1 hour duration. You must complete the quiz to the final submission once you start the quiz.
• Make sure you are ready, well prepared and have stable Internet connection and have enough time before the start of the quiz.
• Please note that due to the nature of this assessment item, no extension to submission deadline can be allowed.
RATIONALE
This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
• be able to critically analyse wireless networking concepts and their applications in real life situations.
• be able to analyse and describe wireless signalling techniques and radio frequency communications.
• be able to investigate theoretical and practical issues relating to wireless technology and communicate the results to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
This assessment is designed to increase students' timely engagements with the subject. In particular, this assessment will be used to identify disengaged students early on.
