Assessment item - Practical & Written Assessment
Requirements
Both the Assessments 1 and 2 are related to the same project case study. Assessment 2 follows on from Assessment 1. In assessment 1, you have presented your system development project and the management has approved your system development project. Next, you will investigate and discover the information system requirements and document the analysis results as in various types of modelling diagrams.
In the Assessment 2- Practical & Written Assessment, you will explain how your project team used techniques like interview, survey questionnaire, observation, etc. to investigate what the users in the given case study Education in Australia expect the system to work.
The collected information and your analysis results have given you a deep insight of the system to prepare some very useful models for the management and the development team. The modelling diagrams aims to present the system user requirements well, esp. all levels of system functionalities, database schema and detailed system processes. Many models are what you have learnt in this course Complete the following tasks and document your work in your written assessment.
The Tasks
1. Explain your choice of the 3 most useful investigation techniques that you have used to investigate the new automated information system, Education in Australia (EIA) and the reasons for choosing them.
2. After you have analysed your collected information from EIA, produce the following UML diagrams for EIA as the specifications for a new automated information system, Education in Australia Information System (EIAIS).
A. Use Case Diagram -
- With all the critical use cases in the entire system
B. Domain Model Class Diagram -
- With all important classes needed in the entire system
C. An Activity Diagram -
- Assume that admin staff is an actor using the new system for retrieving an existing student's record. The system helps the admin staff to locate an existing student. With information of the located existing student, the admin staff will place a new fee paying order for the existing student. Use 2 swim lanes as an actor (Admin staff) and a system class object to show the above system work flows.
D. A System Sequence Diagram -
- Assume that a student is an actor using the new system for printing a timetable for his enrolled courses. Show this specific system process in a system sequence diagram.
Note that when developing each diagram, you may make some assumptions which will affect the results of your presented modelling diagram. For examples,
- When analysing an organization's business processes, there are usually some issues which need to be clarified before you can proceed, particularly when the issues affect the way you developed your models.
- In practice you would simply ask the users. In this case you should make reasonable assumptions of what you believe the users would advise you and list those assumptions here
Right after a presented diagram, explain each diagram to your readers and your assumptions made in modelling it.
Please check that no task is missed out in the reporting document and it is a well written reporting document of analysis clearly free from content errors and linguistic errors before making your Assessment 2 online submission.
