Assignment Brief
Scenario:
You work for a company within the power industry and as such you have a range of instrumentation and process control systems utilised in different operational areas to achieve your company's goals in meeting the demands of power consumers.
Activity:
Part 1: Review of Industrial Application of C & I System
Identify a wide range of sensors and transducers that can be found in a typical industrial process control systems such as power distribution control system. Minimum of five (5) with at least three (3) electromagnetic types.
For each of the sensors and transducers using relevant images, you will need to describe how they function and what they are used for within the power distribution industry
You will need to explain the types of signals that the sensors and transducers produce and analyse their accuracy after signal conversion and conditioning.
Then, you will need to explain the different methods and related standards used to convert and condition the sensors and transducers' signals ready for the control system to use.
Finally, include research and images of a typical power distribution control system including its sensors and transducers. Define at least five (5) signal terminology with instrumentation and process control
From (a), for the electromagnetic types, analyse their electromotive force requirements, speed of operation, the torque/force that they can produce and any other features which justifies their suitability for the specific power industry applications
Finally, recommend ways to improve the operating efficiency of each of your chosen transducers/actuators in (f) and analyse other industrial applications where they can deployed to better utilise their transducing/actuating capabilities rather than existing options currently in place
Part 2: Terminology & Process Control Concept
Given that by 2030 the sale of petrol/diesel cars will be banned, what important role process control systems would play in both the power industry and the car manufacturing sector in helping achieve net zero emissions. With increasing large scale deployment of EVs, research and explain how an electric vehicle (EV) control system achieves speed control.
Define at least five (5)specific control terminology and concepts associated with your explanation of the EV speed process control in (a)
Based on your description in (a), how can existing and future EV speed control systems and controllers be improved, discuss.
