John and Amanda were both hired together as Supervisors. They worked closely together for a few years as peers. They were friends and relied on each other during tough times at work. A new manager position opened and both John and Amanda applied for the spot. John ended up getting the promotion and now Amanda reports to him. John must now think about discipline, performance evaluations, and raises for his former peer/friend. If you were John, how would you tackle this new scenario? Would you limit your interactions with Amanda outside of work? Would you be able to create new boundaries as her leader?
