Assignment:
In your responses to your classmates, build on their initial posts and explain which service model is most appealing to you and why.
1) The three models of service delivery are medical, public health, and human services. The medical model of service focuses on the patient and sees the individual as sick or ill. These individuals depend on these medial workers to treat their illness or sickness. The human services model provides services to individuals that may be having problems such as homelessness. The public health model modal focuses on the cause of problems and how to prevent them from happening again, such as HIV/AIDs.
The main similarity between these models is that they all have the same goal and that is to help these individuals get the help that they need. On the other hand, the models are all different in their own kind of way. The medial model mainly helps individuals who need medial attention. In this model, healthcare workers can use their knowledge in creating a diagnosis and treatment. This model focuses on the individual more than anything else. The human services and public health models focus not only on the individual, but society, and community as well as prevention.
2) Human Services is often an umbrella term to include all society's professions that help to enhance and enrich a human's life and community. Everything from mental health to criminal justice is included in the human services profession (Woodside 2015)
Medical encompasses mental and physical health services. Those services are an integral part of human services. They help to keep society healthy and happy. This model delivers on an individual basis.
Public health encompasses your Public Health department and CDC. Those services help those who are indigent and cannot afford health care to keep vaccinated and healthy. This model delivers on more of a community or society as a whole basis.
Human Services would be your departments of human services and child welfare. These services help with food, shelter, and medical resources for those who cannot afford it. This model usually delivers as a family unit and individual.
All these services are in place to help society. They differ by what they specialize in under the umbrella of human services. Many different entities are in place to assist people in all aspects of their lives.
The human service profession can be gratifying. It can also take its toll. I work in the mental health profession, and sometimes it is hard. Practicing self-care is a must for any human services professional.
